Abstract Hydrogenation of carbon‐ 13 C dioxide over ruthenium‐on‐alumina catalyst at 300–400°C produced methane‐ 13 C, which was passed with excess ammonia over platinum at 1000°C to give, after absorption of the product in sodium hydroxide solution, sodium cyanide‐ 13 C in 90% overall yield. Methane‐ 13 C‐d 4 and methane‐d 4 were prepared by reduction of carbon‐ 13 C monoxide and carbon monoxide, respectively, with deuterium.
