Scalable Electrochemical Dehydrogenative Lactonization\nof C(sp2/sp3)–H Bonds

Abstract

A practical, electrochemical\nmethod is developed for the direct\ndehydrogenative lactonization of C(sp2/sp3)–H\nbonds under external oxidant- and metal-free conditions, delivering\ndiverse lactones, including coumarin derivatives with excellent regioselectivity.\nThe scalable nature of this newly developed electrochemical process\nwas demonstrated on a 40 g scale following an operationally simple\nprotocol. The remote lactonization of C(sp3)–H bonds\nwould constitute an important synthetic advance toward electrochemical\nC–O bond formation.
