Abstract

Introduction: The use of digital technologies, such as cell phones and tablets, has become an essential part of children's daily lives, providing tools for learning, communication, and entertainment. However, excessive use of these devices can negatively impact children's cognitive and behavioral development, influencing aspects such as attention, memory, socialization, and mental health. This study aims to analyze the effects of excessive use of these technologies in childhood, investigating their consequences on child development.Methodology:The methodology adopted was a systematic literature review, following the PRISMA statement guidelines. Articles published between 2020 and 2025 were selected from scientific databases such as PubMed and SciElo, using keywords related to the topic. The inclusion criteria covered complete studies in English, Portuguese, or Spanish, while articles without a direct approach to cognitive and behavioral impact were excluded. Results and Discussions: The results indicated that prolonged screen time is associated with concentration difficulties, increased anxiety, impaired social interactions, and negative impacts on sleep quality. Furthermore, excessive use of mobile devices can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, affecting children's physical and emotional health. The analyzed research reinforces the need to control screen exposure time and adopt strategies to balance the use of technologies in children's environments.Final Considerations: It is concluded that excessive use of digital technologies in childhood has significant impacts on cognitive and behavioral development. Parental mediation and the implementation of educational strategies are essential to minimize negative effects and ensure healthy development for children. Future studies should deepen the relationship between screen time and neurodevelopmental disorders, providing more concrete guidelines for parents and educators.
