Abstract

The metaverse is poised to revolutionize the tourism and hospitality industry by offering immersive and interactive experiences that bridge the physical and virtual realms. Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies empower businesses to engage with customers, fostering co-creation and enhancing personalization. This paradigm shift, however, comes with unique challenges, including ethical use, economic barriers, health and safety concerns, and a lack of universal understanding. Responsible adoption of metaverse technologies is essential to unlock their full potential. Future research in this domain should delve deeper into the dynamics of customer co-creation, explore the cognitive and emotional impact of AR and VR, address economic barriers, and focus on health and safety considerations. By addressing these challenges and harnessing the opportunities presented by the metaverse, the tourism and hospitality sector can reshape the way travelers engage with destinations, accommodations, and attractions, ultimately driving bookings and revenue. The metaverse is not just a trend but also a transformative force shaping the future of the industry.
