This paper illustrates, analyzes and classifies the specific problems posed by phraseological variation in literary translation. It is situated within the approach of the Leipzig School of Translatology, combining translatological aspects, particularly the question of translation quality, with a focus on the perspective of variational linguistics and perceptual translatology. The materials dealt with are phraseological units of various kinds used in texts with literary aspirations.
