A wide band, dual polarized patch antenna for wide angle scanning phased arrays

Abstract

A dual polarized wide band patch antenna is developed suitable for phased array applications. The antenna excels in terms of its structural qualities due to being etched on PTFE/ceramic substrates without incorporating foam materials or air between layers despite having an extended bandwidth. The antenna element is able to scan up to 60 degrees from boresight in any plane in the presence of a planar radome without causing severe array mismatch problems.
