Abstract

A catalyzed diesel particulate filter (CDPF) was prepared based on Corning cordierite wall flow filter substrate. A high surface area precious metal/base metal catalyst was deposited on the filter substrate. the deposition of catalyst generates negligible pressure drop. Lab testing shows that the CDPF has high activity for the oxidation of CO and hydrocarbon and low activity for the oxidation of SO2. the catalyst is very active for the oxidation of diesel soot. the CPDF has balance point temperature of 350°C as tested on 5.5KW Lister Petter LPA2 diesel engine genset with the use of federal diesel fuel. Presence of high surface area coating layer enhances the activity for CO, hydrocarbon and soot oxidation and the thermal stability of the catalyst.
