Clock Hill Climbing Algorithm

Abstract

In this paper we present an algorithm for finding local peaks. It is thought to recover the paths to reach local peaks and their structure, rather than the peaks or end points themselves which are easily found by other mechanisms. Applications for this algorithm are diverse and modifications can be made to suit requirements. For example it can be used to find paths on topographic maps, weighted maps, find structures on electrical or imaging recording from neurons ([1], [2]), image pre-processing, data exploration, etc. Any data can be transformed/adapted into a 2D map with values and run this algorithm on it.
