[5]Trovacenol (<b>4</b>•) prepared according to the\nsequence (C7H7)V(C5H5) (<b>1</b>•)→ (C7H7)V(C5H4OSiMe3) (<b>5</b>•)\n→ (C7H7)V(C5H4OH) (<b>4</b>•) in the crystal adopts a sheet\nstructure. The sheets consist of parallel chains of hydrogen bonds, graph set C(4), to which the [5]trovacenyl\ngroups are connected, forming double layers. Packing of\nthe trovacene units on both sides of the (···O−H···O−H···)<i>n</i> spines displays a herringbone pattern. In this way\nO−H···O as well as (C7H7)H···π(C5H5) hydrogen bonding\nis optimized. This study represents the first full structural characterization of a metallocenol.
