This documentary analysis centered on evaluating the impact and perception of generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool for critical thinking within specialized literature. The technology's relevance stemmed from its capacity to foster autonomous learning and creativity, both deemed essential for developing critical thinking in educational settings. This study was guided by three research questions that explored generative AI's impact, its associated benefits and challenges, and the evolution of its perception over time. A qualitative documentary approach was employed, involving a systematic review of academic articles, technical reports, and books published over the past ten years. Data was collected through searches in academic databases and content analysis, with an emphasis on text coding to identify relevant themes and patterns. The procedure included the careful selection of documents, ensuring their relevance and quality, along with data analysis using specialized software. Key trends in the literature were identified, offering a comprehensive view of how generative AI was perceived and utilized in various contexts. The findings are expected to contribute to establishing a foundation for practice with students, enabling a responsible and structured approach to the imminent use of artificial intelligence that favors the development of critical thinking in the academic sphere.
