The novel "Ayah" by Andrea Hirata is a literary work that depicts the complexity of life and the relationships between its characters against a rich cultural background. One of the distinctive characteristics of this novel is the use of code mixing, where the author combines various languages, dialects and styles to create a rich and authentic feel. In this analysis, we investigate the use of code mixing in the novel and its impact on cultural identity formation, character characterization, and readers' experiences. We use textual and contextual approaches to understand how code mixing is used by writers in the context of stories, as well as its effect on readers. The results of this analysis provide a deeper understanding of the complexity of this literary work and its contribution to the treasury of Indonesian culture and literature.
