Wide-angle Scanning Phased Array Antenna Based on Wide-beam Subarrays

Abstract

In this paper, a wide-angle scanning phased array antenna is proposed, based on wide-beam subarrays. Firstly, a $1 \times 6$-element dipole subarray with a simple structure is introduced, utilizing a half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) as the balun, resulting in a wide 3-dB beamwidth of over 170° in the H-plane. Subsequently, an S-band $1 \times 4$-subarray phased array antenna is implemented, showcasing a wide 3-dB gain variation scanning range of ±62° to ±67° within the operating bandwidth of 2.7-3 GHz.
