SummaryThe existence of a composition gradient in thin electrodeposited films (below 3000 A thick) of a nickel-iron alloy has been confirmed. The initial deposit appears to be nickel but within seconds the deposit becomes greatly enriched in iron (Fe 40% average, 80% instantaneous composition) after which the iron content decreases, finally approaching a steady value above 3000 A. A similar type behaviour was shown by a brass alloy deposit, the initial deposit being copper.
