The fourth in a series of the National Water Summary was released recently by the U.S. Geological Survey. The National Water Summary series describes the status of the nation's water resources and addresses selected water issues of concern to decision makers at all levels of government and the private sector. The focus of the current report is groundwater quality, and it contains an illustrated summary of the principal aquifers in each state, their overall water quality, and information on the sources and distribution of natural and human‐induced groundwater contamination. The report also contains case studies of point and nonpoint sources of groundwater contamination and discussions of groundwater management policy from state and federal perspectives.
