Circularly Polarised Hemi-Spherical Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Dual Band Applications

Abstract

This article shows a design of a circularly polarised hemi spherical shaped dielectric resonator antenna for dual band applications. This antenna works on the concept of high mode operations TExyz (TE 111 & TE 113 ) for dual band operations. For the proposed antenna. Hemi spherical DR material is being used and is of the material alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) of the permittivity ( $\varepsilon = 9.92$ ) on the substrate of FR4_epoxy. The novelty of the proposed antenna design is the slot on the ground plane. Instead of a conventional Rectangular slot, here slot of hexagonal shape is used and a Y shape microstrip feed line. On the basis of effective parametric study on each element, a design is achieved for working at dual band range of frequency with low axial ratio. Hence, giving circular polarisation of both the bands. Antenna is capable of working S and C band applications. The impedance bandwidth of the corresponding band is 13.39% and 10.37% respectively. The application for the S band and C band is in wide range including satellite communication for various communication and research purpose, RADARs, Wi Max, weather radar etc.
