Dual band circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna for X-band applications

Abstract

A dual band Circularly Polarized Dielectric Resonator Antenna (CPDRA) is presented in this paper. A single feed, aperture coupling technique is being used to obtain the CPDRA. A cross shaped DRA is placed above a rectangular ring-shaped slot which is truncated at the four corners. The slot is fed by a 50Ω microstrip line present on the opposite side. The proposed design gives a Fractional Bandwidth of 15% and 4.4% and 3-dB Axial Ratio Bandwidth 0.2 & 0.17 GHz around 8.0 and 11.2 GHz, respectively. The maximum gains at both the bands are 6.1 and 4.4 dBic, respectively. A detailed analysis of the operating principle and the results of the prototype are being carried out in this paper.
