Smart grids use several distributed renewable energy sources. Renewable energy sources like photovoltaic modules provide a low output voltage which requires significant boosting before utilisation. Usual boost converter topologies can deliver the required gain but only when operating at extreme duty ratios. Therefore, there is a demand for boost converters which provide high gain with high efficiency while operating at moderate duty cycles. A non-isolated boost converter utilising coupled-inductor technique is presented. The proposed converter has a two dimensional gain expression. The proposed topology has been simulated in LTSPICE for a design of 350 W, 240 V. The results of the simulation prove the validity of the proposed converter.
