Design of reconfigurable ultra-wideband polarization conversion metasurface

Abstract

A reconfigurable ultra-wideband polarization conversion metasurface (RUW-PCM) is proposed. When the Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) is switched on, the RUW-PCM can convert an incident linearly polarized electromagnetic (EM) wave to its orthogonal counterpart in the frequency range from 7.8 to 21.9GHz with polarization conversion ratio (PCR) higher than 90%; while when the MEMS is switched off, a linearly polarized EM wave can be converted to a circularly polarized one in the frequency range from 9.0 to 24GHz with axial ratio (AR) better than 3dB. So the RUW-PCM have a broad application prospect in secure communication and polarization compatibility.
