Development of Automatic Weeding thinner for Sugar Beet

Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop the automatic weeding thinner for sugar beet.The automatic weeding thinner system was composed the CCD camera, the personal computer,rotary encoder and one chip computer. The CCD camera that was mounted in front of the tractorcaptured the images and image processing was proceeding. If the distinction result was sugar beet,the thinning edges that were mounted behind of the tractor were opened by the hydraulic cylinder. Ifthe distinction result was the weeds or the sugar beet that should be leave in stand, the thinningedges were closed. To test the performance of this system, the indoor and field testes were carriedout. As a result, the thinning edges were controlled accurately.
