Distinction between Sugar Beet and Weeds for Development of Automatic Thinner and Weeding Machine of Sugar Beet

Abstract

Abstract: The goal of this study was to develop the automatic thinner and weeding machine forthe sugar beet. In this paper, the algorithm of distinction between sugar beet and weeds, which isnecessary for the automatic thinner and the weeding machine was discussed. The distinctionbetween the sugar beet and the weeds, the green amaranth, the wild buckwheat and the fieldhorsetail, was tested using the shape characteristics of the leaf and the angle of the leaf tipportion based on the image processing technique. The results of the distinction indicated that thecorrect distinction rate of the sugar beet was 87.2% and the error rate was less than 8%.
