Abstract

The syntheses of the bis(tetrathiafulvalene) cyclophanes 12-14 and 16, and the mono(TTF) cyclophane 21 are described, using dithiolatoTFF dianions as key intermediates. The redox properties of these cyclophanes, as determined by solution electrochemical techniques, are correlated with the conformation of the TTF rings and the length and structure of the spacer units. The X-ray crystal structures of compounds 12 and 21 are reported.
