Energy-efficient communication in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

This paper describes why energy-ecient communication in Wireless Sensor Networks is crucial and identifies the main sources of energy dissipation as well as counter measures to ensure a long network lifetime. Furthermore the communication protocol stack and the di↵erent types of protocols for routing, Medium Access Control and transport are presented and the disparities of the categories are clarified by means of examples.
