Miniaturization of slot antenna using split ring resonators

Abstract

This paper presents miniaturization of a slot antenna by using metamaterial based square-shaped split ring resonators (SRRs). A series of SRRs are placed horizontally within the substrate of the slot antenna which makes the antenna operates at a lower frequency. About 36% miniaturization is achieved in comparison to that of the slot antenna without SRRs loading. The radiation patterns are not affected by the presence of SRRs.
