A 4×4 radial dipole array fed by double-sided parallel-strip line

Abstract

This work presents a 4×4 array of radial dipole antennas fed by double-sided parallel-strip transmission lines. This dipole array has a center frequency of 3.00 GHz and a 530 MHz bandwidth, corresponding to a fractional bandwidth of 17.7%. The side-lobes of the array were minimized by choosing a λ/2 element spacing and by unequally feeding the antenna elements with a half-power matrix weighting scheme. Minimal side-lobes were measured at 3.05 GHz, and they were found to be 21.5 dB below the main lobe in the θ = 0° plane and 15.0 dB below the main lobe in the θ = 90° plane. The maximum gain at 3.05 GHz was measured to be 13.7 dBi. These measured results confirm the expected values from simulation.
