Capacity Analysis of Downlink MIMO-OFDMA Resource Allocation with Resource Wise 1-bit Feedback

Abstract

Opportunistic resource allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and multiple- input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques are among the key methods to achieve high spectral efficiency in future wireless communication networks. In this paper, we express information theoretical capacity results for MIMO OFDMA systems with optimal rate adaptation (ORA). Resource allocation is based on a resource block (RB)-wise one bit feedback method. The results indicate that the practical resource fair round robin allocation improves spectral efficiency with the suboptimal RB-wise one bit quantization. The analysis illustrate that space-time block coding (STBC) does not improve the allocation gain of a single antenna OFDMA scheme. The capacity analysis of antenna selection schemes illustrate the improvement of the performance compared to the single antenna transmission.
