MAGNETO-OPTICAL EFFECT IN Fe-Ni, Ni-Co AND Fe-Co BINARY ALLOY FILMS

Abstract

The refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k), Kerr rotation angle (θk), ellipticity (ηk) and saturation magnetization (Ms) were investigated for binary Fe-Ni, Ni-Co and Fe-Co and ternary Fe-Ni-Co alloy films. Both θk and ηk at λ=500 nm can be expressed as a power series of Ms, θk(rad.) = 3.7×10-7Ms + 1.1×10-13Ms3 and ηk(rad.) = 1.1×10-6Ms - 1.9×10-13Ms3 , respectively.
