Increasing optical fiber transmission capacity beyond next-generation systems

Abstract

We discuss how improvements in optical fibers and amplifiers, modulation formats, and digital signal processing algorithms can increase the capacity of long-haul fiber-optic transmission beyond that of next-generation systems.
