The beamwalk system of the Starlab experiment is described. The system is designed to compensate actively for translation and angle disturbances caused by relative motion of its two optical benches. The design controls the position of a reference beam on separate optical detectors. One detector senses beam translation, while the other senses beam angle. The beam is controlled by two mirror servos, one of which corrects beam translation while the other corrects beam angle.© (1990) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
