Magnetic susceptibility of the quasi-one-dimensional conductors (TaSe4)2I and (NbSe4)2I

Abstract

Anomalies in the magnetic susceptibilities chi (T) at Peierls transitions of the quasi-one-dimensional conductors (TaSe4)2I and (NbSe4)2I are reported. While the anomaly in chi (T) of (TaSe4)2I is sharp and similar to that of other usual quasi-one-dimensional conductors, the anomaly in (NbSe4)2I is not sharp and has a clear maximum above the transition temperature. These behaviours are discussed in relation to the transition in Na0.4V2O5 with localised electrons.
