Plasmonic ring resonators

Abstract

This work presents the investigation of the interplay between two different types of losses in plasmonic ring resonators: i) the losses associated with the finite curvature radius and ii) the ohmic losses associated with the penetration of the electromagnetic fields inside the metal. By performing finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation, the spectral response of a class of plasmonic ring resonators was determined. It is shown that for a certain range of material and geometrical parameters a subwavelength plasmonic ring resonator with a high quality factor can be obtained.
