Compact design of dual-band triangular slot antenna for wireless communication

Abstract

A novel compact equilateral triangular slot antenna with dual-band operation for wireless communication is proposed and our experimental studies are reported. We arrange a pair of F-shaped strips, connected to the centers of the equilateral sides of the triangular slot antenna. Due to the embedded F-shaped strips, the surface current paths of two resonant modes are perturbed to make the operating frequency lower. By adjusting the length of the F-shaped strip to be 15.5 mm, the obtained two operating frequencies are close to 2.4 and 5.2 GHz. With the use of the F-shaped strip, there is a reduction in antenna size of about 55.1% for the 2.4 GHz band and 15.4% for the 5.2 GHz band. The proposed triangular slot antenna has a much greater operating bandwidth for the two operating bands to meet the IEEE 802.11a/b specifications.
