Abstract

The electromechanical resonance behavior of the ferroelectric Pb(Mg⅓Nb⅔)O3 multilayer capacitors has been carefully observed using 35V dc bias. Theoretical analysis suggests that expansion and shear vibrations are responsible for the oscillating peaks of the dielectric spectra. The harmonic frequencies estimated from the frequency equations are in agreement with those of the measured data. Based on the theoretical and experimental results, the width resonance is found to be the most prominent of whole oscillations. The dielectric spectra of the width resonance are successfully used as a nondestructive test of capacitors.
