Compact ultra-wideband printed monopole antenna

Abstract

An improved compact ultra-wideband (UWB) printed monopole antenna is proposed. The total size is reduced by about 25% by adapting a special-shaped radiation patch, loading straight and cross gaps in the patch. Moreover, by changing the way of slotting on the ground, the impedance matching characteristics of the antenna are much better. The −10 dB impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 3.07–40 GHz, which is about 188% broader. Both good radiation and practical characteristics are observed. Thus, this antenna would be a good choice for UWB wireless communications in the future.
