Abstract

Abstract We present an analytical model for investigating pressure dependence of the radial mode resonant frequencies of single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT). Mechanical shell model is used to in the calculation. SWCNTs with 1 nm and 10 nm radiuses have been analyzed, and it is found that frequency dependence of the radial mode vibration of SWCNT is related to diameter, axial half wave number, m and the circumferential wave number, n. Based on the modeling, a device concept of molecule sensor has been proposed, which is capable of detecting concentrations of small size molecules.
