The Magnetic Behaviour of the Pseudobinary Compounds Gd₂Au_xAu_xAl_1−x

Abstract

Abstract Theoretical calculations and experimental results are presented on the magnetic behaviour of Gd 2 Au x Au x Al 1‐x x ϵ [0, 1]. While the theoretical calculations using the mean field approximation and RKKY theory for indicate antiferromagnetic ordering for x < 0.2 and ferromagnetic ordering for x > 0.2, susceptibility measurements indicate a rather complicated situation with two transitions in the vicinity of 200 and 25 K (dependent on x ). Cluster formation is observed and shape effects are present.
