Abstract

In the title compound, C4H8N4O2, which was synthesized by the reaction of lactic acid with hydrazine hydrate under solvent-free conditions, all bond lengths and angles are normal. In the crystal structure, intermolecular O—H⋯N and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into two-dimensional corrugated sheets parallel to the bc plane.
