Cyclic wavelength jitter in actively mode-locked semiconductor lasers

Abstract

Large spectral broadening has been observed in an actively mode-locked semiconductor laser tuned for minimum average pulsewidth. Numerical simulations show that the spectral broadening was a result of cyclic wavelength variations associated with large amplitude and timing instabilities.
