Abstract

Human chorionic somatomammotropin is the principal protein produced by the term placenta. It plays an important role in regulating metabolism in the pregnant woman hut its exact biological roles are still not clearly defined. Accurate measurement of immunoreactive-HCS (1R-HCS) is easily achieved by radio-immunoassay. IR-HCS appears to correlate well with fetal status in hypertensive disease of pregnancy but final judgment should await the results of carefully controlled, large scale clinical trials.
