Elastic Buckling of Plate Girders from Pure Bending

Abstract

The elastic buckling of stiffened web plates of girders subjected to pure bending is investigated using the theory of orthotropic plates. The curves of critical loads containing the influences of the rigidities of vertical stiffeners and the top flange are given; these can be used for obtaining the critical loads of any plate girders. The influences of the rigidities of vertical stiffeners and the top flange on web buckling are examined.
