Abstract

Abstract This chapter focuses on some of the challenges that student-athletes face from the demands of balancing academic and athletic tasks, and how these experiences shape motivation for academic success. Using achievement motivation theory as a frame of reference, we conclude the chapter with an overview of the literature on a student-athlete motivation and offer strategies for improving motivation through assessment and building academic resilience.
