A ATUAÇÃO DA ENFERMAGEM NOS CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS AO PACIENTE ONCOLÓGICO ADULTO: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

Abstract

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), palliative care is an approach that seeks to improve the quality of life of patients with incurable diseases through symptom control and comprehensive support. This practice values dignity, autonomy, and comfort. Given this, nursing plays a central role in continuous and humanized care. Objective: Based on the scientific literature, this study analyzes nursing practices and interventions that promote the quality of life of adult cancer patients in palliative care, highlighting the role of nurses in humanized care. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature conducted in the information sources PubMed, Web of Science, BVS, LILACS, and MEDLINE, with publications between 2015 and 2025, using the PICO strategy: (P) adult cancer patients in palliative care; (I) nursing practice; (C) not applicable; (O) promotion of quality of life. The guiding question established was: “How does nursing practice integrate care and contribute to promoting the quality of life of adult cancer patients in palliative care?”. Results: The analysis of the studies shows that nursing prioritizes comfort, pain control, and emotional support, acting in an interdisciplinary and empathetic manner. The most frequently cited interventions include active listening, symptom management, and therapeutic communication with patients and family members. Conclusion: The study concludes that nursing integrates oncological palliative care through evidence-based actions and effective communication, promoting well-being, dignity, and quality of life for patients in the palliative phase.
