Abstract

Abstract The research examined the understanding of artificial intelligence among undergraduate business education students at Delta State University. The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed the global business landscape, necessitating a shift in the competencies required of graduates in business-related fields. In particular, Business Education must adapt to equip students with AI awareness and skills essential for thriving in an increasingly AI-driven economy. Despite growing interest in AI integration within education, limited research exists on the level of AI awareness among Business Education undergraduate students in Nigerian universities—particularly in Delta State. This study addressed this gap by assessing the awareness levels of Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) among Business Education undergraduates in Delta State universities. Guided by two research questions and corresponding hypotheses, the study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A total population of 1,175 students was targeted, with a sample of 247 respondents selected. Data were collected using a validated, self-designed questionnaire, and analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and z-test statistics at a 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that students demonstrated awareness of both ANI and AGI; however, integration of AI into the curriculum remains limited due to factors such as inadequate faculty training and curriculum adaptability challenges. The study concluded that while awareness exists, deeper curricular integration and practical exposure are needed to fully prepare students for the demands of an AI-influenced job market. It is recommended that regulatory bodies initiate sustained AI awareness campaigns, and that Business Education curricula be urgently revised to incorporate AI-related competencies and tools, ensuring students are not only informed but industry-ready.
