Abstract

Electricity is a precious resource. To save electricity, the energy system needs to be intelligent. Traditional meters were unreliable, easily tampered, and open to electricity theft. Therefore, a smart energy meter design is presented in this research that measures, computes, and transmits the data to an IoT server for remote visualization by both utilities and customers. On top of that, it has an embedded theft and tamper detection system, which detect the real-time electricity theft and tamper for utilities to take action. It also allows consumers to easily manage their energy usage and appliances with device-level monitoring and power factor information.
