Sonochemical Synthesis of Au−Ag Core−Shell Bimetallic Nanoparticles

Abstract

Au−Ag bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared by the sonochemical co-reduction of Au(III) and Ag(I) ions in aqueous solutions. TEM images indicate that the co-reduction of Au(III) and Ag(I) produces bimetallic nanoparticles with a Au core−Ag shell morphology. It is suggested that the formation of core−shell morphology is due to the reduction order of the metal ions and the involvement of a polymer−Ag ion complex.
