Electron Conductive and Proton Permeable Vertically\nAligned Carbon Nanotube Membranes

Abstract

We report the fabrication of membranes\nhundreds of micrometers\nthick that demonstrate efficient electron conduction and proton transport\nthrough vertically aligned arrays of multiwalled carbon nanotubes\n(NTs) impregnated by epoxy. Electrical transport was Ohmic with a\nconductivity of 495 mS cm–1. Protons traversed the\nmembrane through the NT bore with a current of 5.84 × 10–6 A. Good electron and proton transport, chemical robustness,\nand simple fabrication suggest NT membranes have potential in artificial\nphotosynthesis applications.
