Compact Dual Band MIMO Printed Monopole Antenna

Abstract

This paper presents the design of a compact MIMO (Multiple input Multiple output) antenna which resonates at dual band frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5.4 GHz). The U-shaped resonator is incorporated to reduce mutual coupling at 5.4 GHz (achieving - 32 dB isolation), while the rectangular slot structure effectively minimizes mutual coupling at 2.4 GHz (achieving -28 dB isolation). The return loss is below -15 dB at both frequency bands, ensuring excellent impedance matching. These design elements enhance antenna performance and improve isolation between MIMO elements. The simulated results demonstrate that the proposed U-shaped resonator and rectangular slot structure effectively reduce mutual coupling between array elements at the two operating frequency bands, making the MIMO antenna a promising solution for future 5G smartphones, IoT devices like smart home automation systems, industrial IoT (IIoT) sensors, healthcare monitoring devices, and wearable electronics, and Wi- Fi applications.
