Pt–Ni Nanoparticle-Stacking Thin Film: Highly\nActive Electrocatalysts for Oxygen Reduction Reaction

Abstract

A novel nanoparticle-stacking thin\nfilm (NPSTF) of Pt–Ni\nalloy for highly active oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalyst\nwas synthesized. The Pt mass activity of the synthesized Pt–Ni\nNPSTF were 10-fold higher than commercial carbon-supported Pt catalysts.\nThe remarkable ORR activity enhancement of the Pt–Ni NPSTF\nwas attributed to the modified electronic properties of the surface\nPt-enriched layers induced by underlying Ni atoms and to the increased\nactive surface area achieved by stacking of Pt–Ni nanoparticles.
