<i>iR</i> Drop Effects in Self-Powered and\nElectrochromic Biosensors

Abstract

This\narticle proposes the exploitation of ohmic drop in the development\nof novel electrochromic devices. Electrochromic materials enable the\nconstruction of more efficient self-powered biosensors incorporating\nthe ability to display information without the involvement of silicon-based\nelectronics. Numerical simulations are employed to describe the behavior\nof a model system based on the combination of a second-generation\nbiosensor and a Prussian blue-based display. The results show that\nconcentration profiles can be used to model color behavior in electrochromic\ndevices, but more importantly, how <i>iR</i> drop is a critical\nvariable to consider not only in the design, construction, and study\nof electrochromic devices but also in self-powered electrochemical\nsensors and power sources in general.
