Advances for Catalysts\nin One-Step Oxidative Esterification\nof Aldehydes and Alcohols with Alcohols to Esters

Abstract

Traditional esterification reactions usually take place\nbetween\ncarboxylic acids or carboxylic acid derivatives and alcohols. How\nto produce ester efficiently and cleanly is an urgent problem that\nneeds to be solved in ester industrial synthesis. The development\nof catalysts with high catalytic activity and a long service life\nis significant in this process. In this review, the recent advances\nof the catalysts in one-step oxidative esterification of aldehydes\nand alcohols with alcohols to esters are summarized, including heterogeneous\n(mainly Au-, Pd-, Co-, and Cu-based catalysts) and homogeneous catalysts.\nThe preparation method, catalytic performance, and catalytic mechanism\nof each heterogeneous and homogeneous catalyst were introduced. Finally,\nwe put forward the existing problems of the catalyst and provide strategies\nto solve them.
