Abstract

Students’ attitude towards e-learning determines their skills and interest in learning. Through e-learning, students move beyond the boundaries of traditional thinking towards virtual path and their meditative ideas expand exponentially. Therefore, the researchers have made an attempt to find out the attitude towards e-learning of Under Graduate (U.G.) level students in Kolkata of West Bengal. The study is mainly focused on the attitude towards understanding the explanation of content and interaction process in different aspects through e-learning system based on gender and educational stream. E-learning plays a vital role in making the teaching-learning process more interesting by freeing up the monotony of the classroom. The study is based on descriptive survey method. Simple random sampling technique has used by the researcher for this study. A self-structured closed ended questionnaire with 5-point Likert type scale is designed for data collection from a sample of 200 students from 10 U.G. level colleges have selected randomly under the University of Calcutta to complete this quantitative study. The researchers have collected data by the respondents through e-mails, social sites, and telephonic conversations for this study. Data collection process has done from both primary and secondary sources. Both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics are used after the data is collected. The study is revealed that gender and educational stream have no significant difference of mean score of attitude towards understanding the explanation of content of students. On the other hand, it is found that gender has significant difference of mean score of attitude towards interaction process of students but educational stream has no significant difference of mean score of attitude towards interaction process of students through e-learning. Therefore, it can be stated that, male and female students belonging to arts, commerce, and science stream students have developed a fairly effective and inquisitive attitude towards e-learning at U.G. level. It saves both time and labour in conducting educational activities. E-learning is one of the friend and guide to enter the world of modern education. Its role is very important in stimulating students’ scientific thinking and in developing abstract ideas. After all, in order to keep pace with the changing thinking and dynamic society, e-learning has to follow the path.
